As we prepare our new identity verification process for upcoming depositions, Skribe wants to emphasize the critical role that identity verification plays in ensuring accurate and reliable testimony. Whether you’re representing a plaintiff or a defendant, verifying the identity of witnesses is beneficial.
- Credibility and Authenticity: Accurate witness identification enhances the credibility of their statements. When opposing counsel or the court questions a witness, knowing their true identity helps establish trust and authenticity.
- Avoiding Mistaken Identity: In complex litigation, multiple witnesses may share similar names or roles. Verifying identities prevents confusion and ensures that the right witness testifies to the relevant facts.
New process effective August 1, 2024 achieves added layer of identity verification:
Skribe is requesting the last four digits only of the witness’ government-issued ID be provided to the Skribe liaison for each witness. Please remind witnesses to bring valid identification to the deposition. Accurate identification benefits both sides, promoting a fair and transparent legal process.
This added layer of identification verification enables Skribe liaisons to provide a Declaration of Authenticity and Verification Certificate for deposition records. These certificates serve as crucial documentation, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the information presented during depositions.
Here are the key benefits:
- Admissibility in Court: Deposition records with proper certification are more likely to stand against opposition in court. Judges and juries rely on authenticated documents to make informed decisions.
- Credibility: A certificate of authenticity adds credibility to the record. It attests that the Skribe liaison accurately witnessed the testimony, maintaining the integrity of the legal proceedings.
